MNCC is situated within an area of wetlands occupying ex. gravel pits, now lakes, close to Titchmarsh Wildlife Reserve which is managed by The Wildlife Trust (Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire). The River Nene winds its way between the lakes linked by the Nene Valley Way footpath.
There are many opportunities to walk around the lakes and in the wildlife reserve. Many of the meadows contain grazing sheep and dogs must be kept on a lead. The club site itself has areas of woodland and the larger pool provides important habitat for a wide range of birds and other species. A woodland walk has been created around the large pool with seating for those who wish to sit and watch the wildlife. Expect to see grey heron, shovellors, red kite, terns, egrets, hobbies, swans, gooseander, widgeon, gadwall, skylarks, kingfishers, swallows, martins and more. Also, dragonflies, damselflies, butterflies and even otters. There are a number of organisations concerned with different aspects of the River Nene corridor. We have listed some of them here so you can learn more about them and their work.
We are corporate members of the Inland Waterways Association, a membership charity dedicated to protecting and restoring Britain’s network of canal and river waterways.
Northampton Branch covers the River Nene between Northampton and Thrapston. Peterborough Branch covers the River Nene below Thrapston, the Middle Level Waterways, Forty-Foot Drain (Horseways to Welches Dam) and the Old Bedford River (including the part from Welches Dam to Salters Lode Tidal Doors). We are members of AWCC, The Association of Waterway Cruising Clubs (AWCC), which is a grouping of individual and independent clubs offering members facilities related to boating on the inland waterways of the United Kingdom.

The Friends of the River Nene was set up in 2014 to improve facilities on the River Nene for all users who share their passion for the river. They maintain mooring sites on the river for the use of their members.
The Association of Nene River Clubs is an umbrella organisation for boat clubs on the River Nene. The Club is not currently a member.
